There's a Sog In the Kitchen...

Last Sunday, Sog decided he wanted some tapioca pudding. I was unwilling to make it, but he was determined, and Brittany finally struck a deal with him, that she would make the raspberry sauce if he would make the tapioca.
First, he decided that it would work just as well to beat the eggs after they'd been added to the main mixture, if he used the electric mixer. He then realized how neat the electric mixer is, and decided he could use it the entire time he was cooking the pudding. I found this intriguing, as I had never seen an electric mixer being used on a stove.

Shortly into it, he began getting some engineer ideas for how to have it just mix itself so he wouldn't have to.
Brittany thought it looked sketchy, and moved around the corner, just to be safe.

His idea was to use a piece of ribbon to hang the mixer up, and then the movement of the mixer would make it "drive" itself around the pot for even mixing.

After experimenting with height, angle, and one beater or two, the mixer still refused to drive itself and just mixed away in one side of the pot, so he gave up. (Note: Brittany is out of hiding, now that the danger is passed, but evidently still not convinced that he might try something else.)

Brittany's task with the raspberries was soon completed, and Sog was left by himself at the stove. He became tired of standing, so dragged over the highchair, to which we loudly protested, citing Mom's rule that the only people in the kitchen who can sit while working are pregnant or old folks! Then, correcting ourselves, we had to admit that he does belong in that ancient category.

The highchair wasn't very comfortable, so he had to change positions and try a new angle.

Finally, the whole mixture rose to the top and spilled over, making a huge mess, and indicating that it was done.

By this time, the whole idea had become very tiring and frustrating, and now the pudding had to cool and thicken before being eaten. To redeem himself, Sog decided to go back to something he is expert at making-eggs, bacon and toast.

Finally, the tapioca was ready to eat, and boy oh boy did it look good!

The look on his face after his first bite seems to prove that it was delicious, and maybe, that it was all worth the trial of making.

Join us next week when Sog takes on his next dish-monster cookies!

  6. Thanks for sharing, Kailey! That was hilarious... Sounds like something my brother would do if he was making tapioca pudding. I'd better not let him read the blog post...
