My posts are kinda about the same animals every time, so this post is a little out of the ordinary in that I tried to share some of the lesser seen animals.
A fire started in Wishram and swept over the hill, putting several neighbors' houses in danger. Fortunately it has pretty much been put out, and no buildings were destroyed, as far as I know.
Our last incubator full of duck eggs yielded 3 hatchlings. I'm kinda sick of throwing out all those eggs, but I will get the settings right and have a good hatch yet!!!
We got three more calves last week, as we were once again dumping milk. (The Jersey calf didn't want to come for his picture.)
The weaned litter got moved to the new pen and really enjoy it.
Tulip's litter that was all hidden in the box in the last post. They came out even before their eyes were open because it has been so hot, and sprawled out all over the floor of the cage.
Polly made up for her twins last time by spitting out 6 kittens on Tuesday! This is the biggest surviving litter of kittens that I ever remember having on this farm.
My single Lavender Orpington hen. I was a little disappointed in her looks, but she is getting prettier as she matures.
There are two poor ducks in the chicken pen awaiting butcher, as they were both disabled by chickens when they were babies. (They are okay with the chickens now because they are bigger, so I keep them up to keep a closer eye on them.) I hate the ruthless, cannibalistic nature of chickens, and if the family would eat solely duck eggs, I would get rid of all the chickens.
My flock of ducks. About half of these are babies from this year, and some are sold and awaiting pickup, and others will be butchered soon. I plan to have 2 drakes and 6-8 hens for next laying season.
