*Guest Post* Finland Trip 3/5

Wednesday of our road trip was the long-awaited hike! Trohornet is a 6.2 mile roundtrip hike with 2,129 ft of elevation gain. This photo shows a bit of the extreme gain during the first mile of the hike where I quickly realised I am not in shape at all and had to let my pride go so I could continue. Thankfully, everyone was very accommodating and it was decided to let me lead so I could set the pace. I do think part of it was also not eating a good breakfast, as I did feel much better after eating a protein bar. The weather was absolutely beautiful- I actually got a sunburn by the time we were done!

Marker at the beginning of the hike- There was just a little pull off- big enough for 3-4 cars. We actually missed it the first time around. The first part of the hike was through the trees and very steep, somewhat muddy. The trees came in handy to hold onto on the way. Most of the photos are after this stretch, above the tree line where you could see the surrounding fjords.

First clearing where I recovered and ate a bar. I then took off at a much steadier, slower pace.

The trail up was marked with these red T's. We did a lot of "off roading" but it was handy to have some markers at times.

The crew on the way up. Also, to the left are some sheep that are free ranging all over the mountains.

As close as I would get to the edge!

Some of the views on the way up.

Notice to the left the crazy clear blue water- I was in awe. The whole time. It was almost too much beauty around you to really take in.

These next two photos show the same place from each side. Jeff was ahead of me and had went out to the point but came back too quickly for me to take a photo. He told me by the end, it was only a few feet wide and each side drops down a thousand feet or more. I got up the courage to go out, barely staying long enough for a photo. I'm actually feeling a little queasy thinking about it while typing this. Anyway, I got to the other side and realised it had a much better perspective and wanted another photo. By the time two others went out on it- I decided I actually was okay with the photo I had. ;)

Jeff checking out some scenery a little further up the trail.

Headed up the trail. Check out those BLUE skies!

 More views from the trail.

Some nature on the way up- huckleberries were tasty!

This was a rock that from the distance looked like a pile of snow- it was still pretty neat anyway.

Lunch break before we tackled the last hill- remembered everything for coffee but forgot the grounds!

Last few steps of the trail-scrambling over a hill of huge rocks.

3.5 hours later (including lunch break)..... We made it!

Signed my name at the top:)

In the background is Lofoten. We had thought about going there but decided against going further. And the perfect tropical beach below!

Jeff got some great panoramas- hopefully it works to click on them and zoom in.

And on the way back down- stopped for a quick photo but the rest of the time, we kept a quick pace and got down in one hour.

Couldn't resist the stream at the bottom while waiting for the others.

Got to try out my LifeStraw as well- I think it will be pretty handy on future hikes!

This is from the next morning at the beach- but that is what we climbed!

My Health app after we got done- I was sore and limping for a few days after but it was so worth it!

Conclusion: Everyone needs to go hiking in Norway at least once in their life- and I need to go back for some more!
