The Monday after the convention, a group of us headed out on a road trip to Norway.
Christoffer Lassfolk, Jeff, Me, Marlene and Josefin Hogholm, Sofia Bjorkman. We rented a van and off we went! We didn't have much of a plan and the Finns thankfully researched for us!
Our first stop was Oulu Central Park. It had some nice trails and things to see but this is the only photo I got from it.
Swedish pizza- I was hungry so it was good for the first half. Not much for sauce and didn't taste like "normal" pizza.
First night's stop- The White House. It was a rather redneck house but it was a good price and came fully furnished with sheets and towels, etc.
Second stop- Storforsen in Sweden. One of the biggest rapids in Europe. The roar of the rapids was quite unbelievable. Also will note here, we had the best weather for our whole trip! It was sunny and pleasant every time we were outdoors.
Cool chapel at Storforsen- unfortunately it was locked so we couldn't check out the inside.
Some facts along the trail about the rapids and surrounding area. They used to run logs down this part and had it narrowed down a bit by log walls filled with rocks. In an effort to return it to its natural state, they tore a bunch down and replaced it with the trail we used to walk around.
Dead Falls
Along the trail, there was a gift shop and a little cafe. Jeff and I decided to try some reindeer so got these sandwiches. The bread was good but there was a sniff of meat so I'm still not sure if I like reindeer or not. The cookie was a lemon shortbread and not too bad.
This hole is made by rocks that are round. They come down the stream and start spinning on a flat rock, eventually making various sized holes. This one was the biggest we saw!
The water was very clear!
At this point, it was pretty warm so I decided I needed to try the refreshing water- it felt great!
Enjoying the sunshine.
First look at some reindeer!
It got quite cozy at times during all the hours of driving we did. :)
Nice views along the way.
Getting into Norway, we discovered lots of tunnels. The longest one we went through was just over 8 km long- and took 5 minutes to go through! That was kind of a weird feeling but just had to not think about it too much.
Sunset in Norway.
I thought the sod roofs here were so neat! Most barns also had a ramp to drive into the hayloft as well.
Free range sheep along the way.
One of our rest stops, we walked around town and found some cool old teepees?
A church we checked out- it was very cute!
Some info about the church.
Our cabin for the night on Tuesday. They were freezing cold when we got there- thankfully, we shut the windows and cranked the heater and by morning, it was nice and toasty.
