Aaron invited me on a scenic drive after church, so away we went.
I tried taking a picture to show how steep this canyon was, but cameras have an uncanny way of totally disguising the terrain.
After a bumpity, ride all around, Aaron brought me on one last road, down to the bottom of the above pictured canyon. Apparently, someone used to farm way down here, a long time ago.
These pictures aren't really in order, so bear with me.
A huge, pretty, and sweet smelling lilac.
There were several, what we think are apple trees.
This looked to be another fruit tree of some sort. It was already done blooming, so it'd be something a little earlier than apples... The whole ditch was full of blackberry bushes. Aaron thought there was also an elderberry bush/tree or two.
An old power shed maybe?
Behind the power shed was this concrete basin, full over water, with water pouring out of the overflow pipe in the back, and down into the blackberry ditch. We think that the owner made this concrete trough on top of a natural spring.
We decided that this must have been the outhouse.
There was a concrete foundation and steps in the area between the big tree on the left, and the lilac on the right, presumably where a house once stood.
The road which leads up to an old hay barn.
On the way back home, I was able to snap some pictures of rock chucks, or yellow-bellied marmots.
We had a fine time, and might go back later and see about getting some fruit out of there in the fall!
That looks like an excellent drive. Stubby
